Clean Up Green Up

April 06, 2019

We will be hosting a campus wide clean up in honor of upcoming Earth Day. We will be building a water shed in our WISE Garden (Wildcats Initiative for a Sustainable Environment) with upcycled rain barrels being build off a fence using sheet metal as a make-shift "roof" on a wooden frame. We are creating a weather station under the awning to create an awareness of weather patterns and their effects on our gardening and environment . We will be creating a second composting site in preparations for a "Trash Free Friday" where we will try to do an entire day of no waste (adding to our new composting and recycling efforts). General clean up of the campus area, mulching, and planting with native plants for a more sustainable and low maintenance landscaping. We will also be constructing a chicken coop in anticipation of getting 4 hens that will be added to our WISE Garden. Lots to Do, Lots to Learn, and Lots of FUN!

More impact of project

We were able to rehabilitate various things around the school to add to our Sculpture Garden. We planted more milkweed for your Butterfly Garden to increase the butterfly population and hung mason Bee houses in our wise garden to pollinate the blueberry bushes. Volunteers created a stone hedge for the front of the school repurposing large stones from other areas. Dead trees from Hurricane Michael were removed and a stone bench was refurbished. As well as a hole was dug for our time capsule to be buried next weekend. Three recycled benches were put together for our lay ground and out in place. Lots of weeding, planting, and general cleaning and trash removal was completed! Paint from left over projects was used to repaint the paws in our car loop - rather than throwing it away. Our volunteers worked so hard!!
