Earth Day Celebration and the Monarch Butterfly

August 17, 2019

My Project
I envision an Earth Day celebration if our project is fully funded. I will give out the reusable water bottles, earth shaped stress balls and eco friendly staplers in honor of Earth day. Kids will draw Earth day related images and quotes on their reusable shopping bag. Students will also spread out and plant milkweed seeds around our campus. Milkweed is the only plant that that the Monarch butterfly will lay its eggs on. The Monarch butterfly is in danger of disappearing due to habitat loss.

Kids are naturally appreciative of the fragile yet agile butterfly, but many do not know of the hardships that this insect goes through during its lifecycle.
I hope to teach students about not only Earth Day, but how to help a threatened species right here in our backyard.
