Enhance outdoor classroom space, support newly planted trees by track, weed and trim butterfly garden
The Green Committee (GC) is working on re-grading the Manatee Meadow Outdoor Classroom to help reduce flooding issues which impacts teachers' ability to bring students outside. The GC will also be providing care by trimming, weeding, and staking 14 trees that were recently planted around the track and have suffered after hurricane damage and tropical weather. A third component of this project is to weed, trim and stake leaning plants and trees in the butterfly garden by the playground.

The grounds of our school are now in better shape. We properly staked the 14 new trees that were planted so they should no longer blow over in wind and rain, allowing them to grow properly. We trimmed the butterfly garden that is adjacent to the playground. It was severely overgrown but is now a fun place for students to explore during recess, including a walking path through the middle. The outdoor classroom has been regraded to help with water drainage. It has not been very rainy lately, but we are hopeful that the water will drain towards the edges of the garden and allow the area to dry out more quickly when we get heavy rains. This will make the space more usable by teachers, students, and their families.
