Fairmont Heights High School Sustainable Tour and Curriculum Worksession

Grimm and Parker Architects partnered with the William S. Schmidt Center for Environmental Learning and Outdoor Education to lead teachers at Fairmont Heights High School (recently opened new school and LEED Gold Certified) through a professional development worksession. The worksession focuses on the green and sustainable features of the new school, a tour of the vegetative roof, geothermal wellfield, rainwater harvesting system, greenhouse, daylit classroom and gymnasium, among other spaces. Students of the Environmental Club will explain how the use the greenhouse and raise salmon. The Design Team also led a session on exploring the Green Screen Energy Dashboard system and the curriculum developed to tie into the Building as a Teaching Tool. Lessons for Grades 9-12 were demonstrated with real building material samples.
