The first-ever Green Apple Day of Service on September 29, 2012 was a tremendous day of action with projects in nearly 1,300 communities around the world. People connected to their schools in an entirely new way, and demonstrated the potential for international engagement in support of healthy, high performing schools.

In November, the Greenbuild audience got their official face-to-face introduction to the Green Apple initiative in San Francisco. Greenbuild was my first opportunity to finally put a face with the voices and emails of the Green Apple team. As the leader of Interface’s Green Apple Day of Service efforts globally, I had invested many hours this year advocating for green schools, but I quickly discovered that the Green Apple program has so many deeper layers.
