No More Food Waste! Composting in the Garden

August 10, 2019

Go into any elementary school cafeteria at lunch and you will see a trash can overflowing with food waste. Despite our small school size, three to four large trash cans are filled every day with food waste and trash. As the Garden Club coordinator, I want to tackle this problem while creating rich compost filled with nutrients for our school garden; a composting tumbler will be the perfect tool to address our needs!
Garden Club will take food waste, the weeds from our garden, and any other biodegradable material we can find, and literally turn it into rich compost to grow even better fruits and vegetables for our school! As we enter our summer growing season, we have our sights set on trying for jumbo watermelons which will need rich compost to grow big and sweet for our community to enjoy!
