Fashion Revitalized - Stevenson High School Fashion Show 2022

April 14, 2022

In conjunction with Stevenson High School, Gilbane is partnering with staff and students to implement sustainable practices into their fashion curriculum and spring fashion show. Gilbane completed an addition at the school in 2019 that was recently awarded Net Zero status and is currently working on a second expansion striving for LEED v4 Gold and WELL certification. Gilbane started the process by presenting to the fashion classes the similarities that both the construction and the fashion industries have on the environment and some tactics to make design and construction more ecofriendly. From there, we dove into examples of not only what Gilbane’s done to implement sustainable features in their new school additions but also ways they, as students, could implement similar thinking into their own designs for class. For the GADOS project, the fashion teacher has continued to push this thinking to her students and has carved out a section of their spring fashion show to showcase the students’ zero-waste designs. Gilbane will be further helping this cause by reusing some of the construction waste on site, repurposing it to adorn the stage for the show, and helping pull participants to attend the event to increase donations to the cause. This fashion show serves as an avenue to not only raise funds for Responsibility in Fashion, a nonprofit entity who supports clean/safe/ethical fashion, but also helps spread environmental consciousness to the community attending, proving that this school community practices what they preach.
