After performing waste audits in 8 Culver City Schools, we were able to identify that the waste stream system in most of the schools is broken. From the inside trash can set-up, liners and their removal and disposal, signage and education are not functioning. Our goal is to get the three streams up and running again and to make the system work!
We need to strategically add recycling & composting bins, colored liners (to help identify the streams) print and display signage everywhere, educate/train (on sorting and waste reduction) and do workshops to increase our recycling & composting rate, avoid contamination and lower our trash waste levels. We are also working on custodian training, and recycling videos for students.
